“Pelvic PT has changed my life.” - A MOJO Patient’s Story

“I’ve dealt with pelvic pain, endometriosis, and Interstitial Cystitis for 20 years. 20 years of surgeries, hormones, invasive procedures, exams, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and medications - plus fertility issues, then two difficult deliveries - my body holds a lot of medical trauma.

After the insistence of my gynecologist and therapist, I finally went to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy at MOJO. I really didn’t want to go. I didn’t want another person touching my body. It wasn’t convenient - I had to drive across town to make my weekly appointments with no childcare for my young daughters. And I had my doubts about its efficacy after trying PT after my last baby with limited results. But, eventually, I begrudgingly made the appointment and I went.

Y’all. It has changed my life. My daily pain is gone. I don’t need my heating pad by my bedside. I don’t have to plan my day around my bladder. I can run and play with my kids without leaking. I can wear jeans with a button waist, when before I could only wear elastic or dresses because I was so tender.

This achievement comes after four months of hard work from myself and my physical therapists (Shoutout to Amy and Myriam). My body was so tense from years of illness, they had to retrain my muscles to relax. All of the prior postpartum PT had been focused on strengthening muscles that never “turned off”, compounding the issue. Now, my pelvic floor remembers how it’s supposed to work, thanks to these highly skilled and compassionate women.

I was in pain for so long it became my “normal”. Now, I have a huge part of my life back and I’m thankful everyday for my new normal!”
